    Notes
    • Serrul is the oldest ancestor known as ours. He was born in 1765 at the White Indian Reserve in Granville County, North Carolina. On November 20, 1785, he married Susannah Lankford in Granville County and appears in the 1800 Johnson County, North Carolina census with five males and five females.

By 1830 the family is in Bedford County, Tennessee, an area that became Marshall County in 1836. Some researchers say Serrul was the Cherokee Indian known as Eagle in Early 1800 migration rolls.

Susannah is the daughter of Henry and Catherine Williams Lankford of North Carolina said to be from Virginia originally. She died in Marshall County, Tennessee before August 1838 when Serrul married Nancy Ann Haynes Noblin Mount, widow of Harris Mount. Ten children are noted in the 1843 will of Serrul; Ann married Benjamin Pyland; Sion, believed to be Wiley Sion; Mahalah "Aley" married Thomas Bloodworth; Nancy married Joseph Sharp; James G.; Aden is noted below; Agnekas "Aggy" married John T. Spears; Unknown son; Elizabeth married John W. Davis; and Sally married James Holder.
